These two May tweets will be studied for many years. pic.twitter.com/ra9jGmoso1— Jason #StayHome Kint (@jason_kint) May 29, 2020
As I said over on the tweets.
It will be forgotten within the month.
And things won't change.
Not until white people change ourselves.
It's hard work to change because, as children, we were steeped in white supremacy and it is right in there in the deepest insides of ourselves. I was brought up in a 1980's, middle class, WASP family. I went to private school. I voted for Jeff Kennett in my first election.
It's uncomfortable and confronting when you accept that a whole bunch of your reflexive reactions are pretty shitty white supremacy. But you can't turn your back on it or ignore it. You have to face that shit and stare yourself out and be. fucking. better.
Amy Cooper showed us again that it's not just the Right who have a monopoly on racism. My politics are a long way left nowadays, I am, for the most part not racist. But that white supremacist culture is (still) Australian Culture and it still pops up in weird places. So I keep looking, keep challenging and examining because it's on me. I have to do the work and keep on doing the work. We all do.
Sadly, most of us won't.
